The edge, solved

Planters that solve the edge.

On rooftops and podiums, the boundary is everything. Rooftop Series is engineered and certified to meet the National Construction Code and the relevant Australian Standard requirements for edge protection and barriers — tailored to each project’s condition.

The planter is the barrier: engineered for the loads and height, fixed to the structure and signed off by a registered structural engineer. There’s no single fixed product — the compliance is designed to your project.

The reassurances

The engineering that lets a landscape sit safely on a roof.

Load & weight
Lightweight aluminium with unit and saturated (wet-soil) load data to work within roof limits.
Membrane
Feet and detailing that spread load and won’t damage the waterproofing membrane.

Standard sizes

Standard footprints, engineered for the roof

Built lightweight and levelled on adjustable feet for podium and roof loading. Rooftop planters are typically 800 or 1000 mm tall; heights run 400 · 600 · 800 · 900 · 1000 · 1050 mm — the taller options suit barrier and edge-protection use (see below). Available on every footprint. Dimensions in millimetres.

Rectangular — standard footprints
Length (mm)Available widths (mm)
1200400 · 500 · 600 · 750 · 900
1500400 · 500 · 600 · 750 · 900
1800400 · 500 · 600 · 750 · 900
2400400 · 500 · 600 · 750 · 900

Every length available in all five widths. Longer runs made to order.

Square footprints share the same height range; 1500 mm square is large-format, made to order.

Barrier compliance — the non-climbable zone. Where a Rooftop Series planter also serves as edge protection or a barrier, the design must maintain a non-climbable zone from 0–760 mm — no climbable footholds within that band — and reach the required barrier height to meet the National Construction Code and AS 1170.1 — achieved with a tall planter, or a standard planter plus a balustrade extension (see below). POBOX engineers and certifies each barrier application per project, with the planter fixed to the structure to our details; a client-fitted planter is not automatically certified. Compliance & fit

Meet the barrier, fit the run

Two ways to a compliant barrier

Both reach barrier height while the solid planter body forms the 0–760 mm non-climbable zone.

A tall planter — 900 to 1050 mm
Reaches barrier height in a single element. The cleanest look where the planter can carry the full height.
800 mm planter + 250 mm balustrade extension
A standard 800 mm planter with a slim 250 mm balustrade extension fixed on top reaches 1050 mm overall — clearing the barrier height without the visual bulk of a full-height planter, and keeping planting at a comfortable working depth.

Both are engineered and certified per project, fixed to the structure to our details.

Need a long run?

Rooftop modules connect end-to-end into one continuous set — as long as the edge or parapet needs. To fit an as-built length exactly, we combine standard modules with a single custom module sized to close the run.

Example — a 9.2 m parapet. Five standard 1500 mm modules (7.5 m) join to one custom 1700 mm module to land the run wall-to-wall. The standard modules keep it economical and quick to make; the single custom piece makes the precise fit.

Send the as-built dimensions and we’ll set out the module run for you. Request a quote →
