Our commitment. PO Box Designs is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations and to supporting the sustainability objectives of the projects we supply. We see sustainability as central to the long-term value of architectural aluminium.

1. Purpose & Scope

This statement sets out our approach to sustainability and carbon reduction across our operations — our Ballarat workshop, our offshore manufacturing partner, and our delivery activities — and explains how our products support sustainable building outcomes. It complements our Environmental Policy and Recycling Policy.

2. Why Aluminium Is a Sustainable Choice

Aluminium is one of the most sustainable materials available for architectural applications. It is durable, corrosion-resistant, lightweight and — critically — infinitely recyclable with no loss of quality. This gives our products strong sustainability credentials over their full life cycle:

Long service life — our products are built to last decades in service, reducing replacement and its associated impact.
Infinite recyclability — aluminium can be recycled again and again without degradation, so our products retain material value at end of life rather than becoming waste.
Major recycling energy saving — recycling aluminium uses around 5% of the energy of primary production — a saving of up to about 95% — with a comparable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (International Aluminium Institute).
Lightweight — aluminium's low weight reduces transport and handling impacts compared with heavier materials.

3. How We Reduce Our Impact

Material & waste

Sheet nesting and layout optimisation to minimise offcut on every job;
Standardised stock product dimensions designed around efficient sheet yield;
Segregation and recycling of all aluminium offcuts and swarf through licensed recyclers;
Application of the waste hierarchy — avoid, reduce, reuse, recycle — before disposal.

Energy & emissions

Working to reduce energy use across our workshop operations;
Batching deliveries and planning efficient routing to reduce transport emissions per item;
Preferring low-VOC powder-coat finishing, which produces minimal hazardous waste.

Sourcing

Engaging suppliers and an offshore partner who support responsible environmental practice;
Seeking higher-recycled-content and lower-carbon aluminium options where available and suitable.

4. Supporting Green Building & Rating Tools

Our products can contribute to sustainable building outcomes and rating tools such as Green Star. Aluminium's recyclability, recycled-content potential and long life support credits relating to responsible materials, life-cycle impacts and end-of-life outcomes. Where a project targets a specific rating, we work with the design team to provide the material and product information needed to support the relevant credits.

Documentation for your rating submission. We can provide material information, recycled-content details (where available from our supplier), and finish information to support Green Star or other rating submissions. 5. Continuous Improvement

We monitor our environmental performance and set improvement objectives over time — including reducing waste, improving energy efficiency, and increasing the use of recycled-content and low-carbon aluminium as supply allows. We review this statement periodically.

Aspirational targets — to confirm. This statement is deliberately conservative and claims only what we can substantiate today. If you wish to publish specific commitments (e.g. a recycled-content target, an emissions-reduction goal, or a net-zero timeframe), provide the figures and I will incorporate them. Do not publish targets that cannot be evidenced, as tier 1 and government reviewers may request proof.
