Why maintenance matters. Regular cleaning is the single most important factor in the long-term appearance and durability of a powder-coated finish. Following this guide keeps your finish looking its best and is a condition of finish warranty cover under our Warranty Policy.

1. About Your Finish

Your PO Box Designs product is powder-coated by a Dulux Accredited Powder Coater to AS 3715. Powder coating is a durable, decorative and protective finish, but like all architectural finishes it requires routine cleaning to remove airborne pollutants, salts and grime that would otherwise degrade the coating over time.

2. Cleaning Frequency

Clean your finish at the minimum frequency below for your environment. More frequent cleaning is beneficial in exposed or polluted locations.

EnvironmentMinimum cleaning frequency
Standard / inland (sheltered)Every 3 months
Urban / industrialEvery 1–2 months
Marine / coastalEvery 1–2 months, plus rinse salt deposits between cleans
Pool surroundsEvery 1–2 months (chlorine/salt exposure)

3. The 3-Step Cleaning Procedure

Follow this simple procedure (per Dulux guidelines and AAMA 610.1):

4. Approved & Prohibited Agents

Cleaning agents & tools
ApprovedWarm water; mild pH-neutral liquid detergent; soft cloth, sponge or soft-bristle brush.
ProhibitedTurpentine, white spirits, thinners, petrol, kerosene; abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or powders; strong solvents, acids or alkalis; high-pressure washers directed at the finish.

Warning. Never use turpentine, white spirits, thinners or abrasive cleaners. These will permanently damage the finish and void finish warranty cover. Avoid contact with wet cement, sunscreen and harsh chemicals, and remove any such contact immediately with fresh water.

6. Maintenance & Your Warranty

Finish warranty cover under our Warranty Policy is conditional on following this maintenance guide. We recommend keeping a simple record of cleaning dates, particularly on commercial projects, so maintenance can be demonstrated if a warranty question arises.
